When, Wine | Chris King

I was happy, wine.
Sad, wine.
My father died
before his time, wine.
When I was 18 and unable, wine.
When I was exhausted
so I could, wine.

So as not to feel you, wine.
So as not to drift away,
dwindling until absent,
and no one ever saw me go,
wine.

When in need of blood
of Jesus, wine.
When I thought of cemeteries
in the snow, wine.
When words would not come.

I come to you tonight
and so I would not show
up empty handed, wine.
